Hiroshima Prefectural Yasufuruichi  High School is located on a quiet hillside north of the center of Hiroshima City, overlooking the Inland Sea in the distance.

Yasufuruichi Senior High School is a full time, general course high school with an enrollment of approximately 950 students.

The school has only an academic course: almost all students wish to further their study at colleges and universities.  In fact, 302 students out of the 316 graduates in 2012 went to junior colleges or universities all over Japan.

EMBLEM OF OUR SCHOOL

The design of our school emblem is the three leaves of the UME tree (Japanese apricot) and three arrows.  UME blossoms bloom first in the coldest season of the year (January) and they bring a touch of beauty to the dreary winter scenery.  UME blossoms are highly valued for their sweet fragrance and symbolize purity and nobility despite all adversities and difficulties.  An ancient Chinese emperor once stated, “Love the pen, and UME blossoms will bloom.  Neglect learning, and they will wither.”

Mt. Takeda, which rises high to the south of our school, is a historic site of Motonari Mori (毛利元就 a powerful local lord during the Age of Provincial Wars).  The three arrows of the school emblem come from the lesson that a three-bundled arrow (三矢) is stronger than one arrow, and is a symbolic expression of laying the groundwork for one’s prosperous success.  (In a similar lesson, the Bible says a threefold cord is not quickly broken.) This school emblem thus symbolizes a progressive spirit and a lofty idea creating new traditions of the school.
